At our school, we believe that every student is “Cougar Built.” This means we are building the skills, attitudes, and habits that help us become strong learners, kind friends, and responsible members of our community. Being Cougar Built is about more than just coming to school—it’s about the way we treat others, the way we learn, and the way we take care of ourselves. Here are some of the important ways our students show they are Cougar Built every day.
Cougar Built to Love
Being built to love means being a good friend to everyone. At our school, we work hard to be kind, respectful, and welcoming. We understand that everyone is unique. People may look different, think differently, or enjoy different activities—and that’s what makes our school community so special!
Cougar students make an effort to include others, share kind words, and show respect. Even when someone is different from us, we treat them with kindness. A smile, a helping hand, or an encouraging word can make someone’s day better. When we show love and kindness, we help make our school a place where everyone feels safe and valued.
Cougar Built to Learn
Cougars are also built to learn. Every day at school is an opportunity to grow our minds and discover new ideas. One important word we learn about is literacy. Literacy means having the ability to read, write, and communicate our ideas clearly. These are skills that help us succeed not only in school but throughout our entire lives.
Our teachers work hard to help students develop strong literacy skills. They guide us as we learn to read exciting books, write creative stories, and share our thoughts with others. Learning can sometimes be challenging, but Cougar students know that with practice and effort, we can improve every day.
Cougar Built to Connect
We are also built to connect, especially when it comes to using technology in smart and responsible ways. Technology can be a wonderful tool for learning and fun. Students may use technology to play educational games, watch videos that teach new concepts, or complete homework assignments.
However, being Cougar Built means using technology wisely. If students ever see something online that makes them uncomfortable or seems inappropriate, they should tell a trusted adult right away. Parents, teachers, and other adults are there to help keep us safe. Cougar students also remember that technology should not distract us from learning or spending time with friends and family.
Cougar Built to Work
Cougars are built to work hard and take care of their bodies and minds. Doing our best in school takes energy and focus. That’s why it’s important to build healthy habits.
Students can stay strong and ready to learn by:
Eating healthy foods
Getting enough sleep each night
Exercising and staying active
Doing their best work in class
When we take care of ourselves, we are better prepared to learn, solve problems, and face challenges with confidence.
Cougar Built to Try Again
Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. That’s part of learning and growing! Cougar students know that when things don’t go perfectly, we don’t get angry at ourselves or others. Instead, we encourage one another and keep trying.
Sometimes we may have negative thoughts like, “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t do this.” Those thoughts are like garbage—and just like garbage, we don’t keep them around! Instead, we throw those negative thoughts away and replace them with positive ones.
We remind ourselves and our friends:
“I can try again.”
“I am learning.”
“I can get better with practice.”
A high five, a smile, or a kind word can help a friend feel encouraged and ready to keep going.
Growing Strong Together
Being Cougar Built means loving others, learning every day, connecting responsibly, working hard, and thinking positively. When we practice these habits, we help make our school an amazing place where everyone can grow and succeed.
Together, our Cougar community is building strong students, kind friends, and confident learners—one day at a time!
